Hello Golf Pro,

My name is Cliff Peaker and I am your Golf Fitness Expert in Solano County. My purpose is to help you improve your shot power, distance, and consistency through Absolute Core Training’s customized integrated training systems. Now is your time to grip the golf fitness revolution.

Foundation For Increased Stability
Within The Core For The Golf Swing

Golf fitness exercises are the foundation by which the golfer can develop increased stability within the core for the golf swing. The core is a reference to an anatomical area of the body entailing the musculature structures from just above the knees to slightly below the chest on the front side and back side of the body.

Muscles included in the core are:

  • Abdominal
  • Lower back
  • Glutes
  • Obliques

The core relative to the golf swing is an extremely important area of the body for a number of reasons. One reason is a majority of the movements involved in the golf swing incorporate the core.

Secondly, the core is a major component in the development of power (i.e. clubhead speed) within the golf swing. Finally, the musculature of the core is responsible for the maintenance of a fixed spine angle and many of the postural positions required of the golf swing.

As a result of the reasons above it is extremely important the musculature of the core have certain levels of strength in order to sufficiently execute the requirements of the swing. If the musculature of the core is weak, the ability to stabilize the body within the golf swing and execute the swing will be impeded.

In order to develop the required levels of stability within the core the golfer can utilize golf fitness exercises.

Who Needs Golf Fitness Training?

In today’s sport of golf, strength and conditioning has become an integral part of success at the professional level. Amateur golfers are becoming more aware of the biomechanics relative to the golf swing, but unfortunately many are still unaware of the type of physical conditioning required to support the golf swing.

Professionals within the industry suggest the implementation of a golf specific strength and conditioning program known as golf fitness training.

The golf swing is one of the most intricate athletic actions to perform in today’s sports. Any error in timing, body position, or sequencing will result in inefficient golf swing. These inefficiencies will lead to breakdown in biomechanics of the swing and development compensation within the execution of the swing.

To execute an efficient golf swing, certain levels of mobility, flexibility, stability, strength and power are required. If the physical parameters are limited, the ability to execute each phase of the swing efficiently, in correct order, and with the proper timing will be compromised.

General Fitness Doesn’t Cut It

It is not enough to implement a general fitness program in an attempt to develop the physical requirements needed. In order to improve biomechanics of the golf swing physical requirement need to be developed specifically to the positions, movement patterns, and physical requirements of the golf swing.

The golf fitness training program also referred to as golf specific strength and conditioning program develops the mobility, flexibility, stability, strength, and power requirements of the body relative to the golf swing.

Mobility, Flexibility, Stability, Strength, and Power

Mobility can be defined as the ability of joint’s range of motion.

Flexibility can be defined as the extensibility of all soft tissue surrounding a joint. Both mobile joints and flexible muscles are required to allow a full range of motion. For example, if the surrounding muscles are “tight” the hip will be immobile and unable to operate through the range of motion required to execute the golf swing correctly.

Stability is defined as the ability to remain aligned and presence of outside distractions.

Strength is defined as your body’s ability to exert the required level of force to perform the functional movement at hand.

Power is defined as your body’s ability to create the greatest amount of force in the shortest amount of time. Basically, power develops speed in your golf swing.

To summarize, the stability in your golf swing depends on a certain level of muscular strength. Muscular strength will also allow your body to correctly sequence the muscular contraction of the swing, maintain your spine angle, generate speed, and transfer speed to the golf club.

Biomechanics of the golf swing requires the development of specified physical parameters within the body.
